how to make a vision board

Creating a vision board is one of the most powerful ways to set your goals and manifest the life you desire. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you craft your vision board with intention and purpose:

Step 1:

Write Down Your Goals and Dreams

When I say write it down, I mean physically write it down. This is the most important step in going after what you want. Take at least 10 minutes to intentionally think about what you want for the new year or the future as a whole, and write it down in detail.

For example, one of my goals is to visit Sicily. But instead of just saying, “I want to visit Sicily,” I set more intention behind it by focusing on the “why.” Here’s how I frame it:

  • The What: I want to visit Sicily.

  • The Why: My great-grandparents are from there; I want to learn more about the culture and lifestyle; to understand how they eat and live so I can bring those practices into my life; and because it’s a place I’ve always dreamed of visiting.

Doing this for each goal helps you connect emotionally with what you want and narrows down what’s most meaningful to you. Remember, anything is possible—and time is just an illusion!

Step 2:

Find Images That Resonate with Your Goals

Pinterest is my go-to for this step (it’s truly the superior platform for inspiration). Of course, your vision board doesn’t need to be aesthetic, but what’s the harm if it is? My own board hangs on my wall, and it’s so cute to look at throughout the day.

As you search for images, make sure each one aligns with a goal you’ve written down. You can have multiple images for each goal, but stay intentional. Each picture should resonate with the vision you want to manifest.

Step 3:

Decide on a Digital or Physical Format

This step is simple but crucial. You need to decide whether your vision board will be digital or physical. Whatever format you choose, make sure it’s somewhere you’ll see it every single day. Whether it’s your phone wallpaper or a poster hanging above your desk, the key is to keep it in a place where you’ll be reminded of your goals daily.

For example, my best friend’s vision board hangs above her toilet (yes, really), and she completed each of her goals last year with this same tactic. Mine is on my wall by my door so when I leave I can look at it & I’m about to make one for my phone wallpaper too. Wherever it may be, just make sure it’s visible!

Step 4:

Build Your Board and Set Intentions

Now comes the fun part! Whether you’re gluing pictures onto a board or dragging them into a document, do it with intention. For every picture, speak your goal into existence—out loud or to yourself—as if it’s already happening.

For example, if you’re adding a photo of a new job you want, say:

“I work for a creative marketing agency that brings me joy, allows me creative freedom, and makes me feel successful.”

Speak your dreams into reality as you add each image to your board.

Step 5:

Display Your Vision Board Where You’ll See It Daily

This step is essential. Make sure your vision board is somewhere you’ll see it every day without fail. If you have multiple boards scattered around your home, great! If you prefer a smaller one by your bed or as your phone screensaver, that’s perfect too.

Last year, I made the mistake of putting my vision board in a book. I thought it was cute at first, but guess how many times I looked at it? Maybe three. How many goals came true? Unsure—I’d have to open the book to check!

So, learn from my mistake and keep your vision board visible. The more you see it, the more you’ll be reminded of your goals and inspired to take action.

I hope this guide helps you create your vision board with intention. Remember, your dreams are valid, and the universe works in extraordinary ways. Even if your goal is to marry Harry Styles (because whos isn't ) … well, you never know!

Wishing you a year filled with love, laughter, and light—and the fulfillment of all your goals.

Until next time, darling,

xoxo,
Avalon
