Good food is good for the soul, say it with me, good food is good for the soul. I truly, truly believe this.

Of course, I love a night out to dinner or a Sunday hangover delivery, but truly, there is nothing like a good home-cooked meal. It may take time and effort, and sometimes even more money than eating out, but at the end of the day, you can’t argue that there is something special about the care that goes into a home-cooked meal.

I've had a passion for cooking ever since I was a little one. I’ve always wanted to be in the kitchen, making up any recipe I could think of. When I was in my teens, I really started practicing making my meals and focusing on healthy food to fuel my body as a vegan/vegetarian growing girl who danced and cheered. I learned so much about nutrition in those years and how food can truly make you feel.

As I’ve grown older and entered my 20s, I’ve developed a love for cooking for others even more. There’s something so special about having people in your life who enjoy your cooking, and you get to fill their bellies just as they fill your soul with love. I can’t claim I’m no Martha Stewart, and I’m not always turning out Michelin-level dishes, but practice makes perfect, right?

I really just love to play around in the kitchen, see what ingredients I have, and create what feels right. Sometimes, we get too cautious about being healthy or not wanting to go the extra mile to cook something at home, and we forget to let ourselves enjoy truly delicious food. I’m working on this relationship myself, finding a balance between health and knowing that we deserve the good things in life—one of them being food that makes us smile.

There’s just a sense of awe I feel when I’m in the kitchen. It’s like a canvas. I’m creating something beautiful, and although it may not always look like art, I certainly intend for it to feel that way when I eat it.

When it comes to my cooking, I’m not one to fear spices or a sprinkle of salt—we all need that extra flavor. However, one thing you won’t see much of in my kitchen is meat. I’ve been a vegetarian for over ten years, and while I do help my meat-eating friends by adding some goodies to a charcuterie board from time to time for example, think of me as your new vegetarian friend who comes with recipes of all kinds—from quick and easy meals to meticulous recipes, high-protein hearty dishes, and melt-in-your-mouth cookies. I like to play around with it all!

I hope Appetite Avenue brings you the feels you should be having when it comes to good food for the soul.

xoxo,

Avalon
