apple chocolate date bites

the sweet treat that keeps you coming back for more

Ever wonder what happens when an apple, chocolate, and dates meet in a tree? They might start k-i-s-s-i-n-g (remember that song from kindergarten?). Or maybe—just maybe—they come together to create date bites! I couldn’t help but share this thought after reminiscing about apple trees and getting that catchy tune stuck in my head.

The other day, I felt inspired to shake up the classic date bite recipe I’ve been loyal to for years. This time, I swapped out peanut butter for a crisp apple slice, and the results were a delightful twist on an old favorite. While it might not be a total upgrade, it’s definitely a fresh take!

I was reminiscing about my time abroad with my dear friend Sloan, who reminded me how quickly we used to devour our date bites—gone within a day! They’re that good. Inspired by the seasonal vibes of apples and chocolate, I finally jumped on the bandwagon and gave this combination a try. Spoiler alert: it’s a keeper.

In the video I’ve linked below, you’ll also see my attempt at making bark alongside the bites. While the bites stole the show, the bark taught me a valuable lesson: don’t skimp on chocolate or nut butter—it’s the glue that holds it all together! Next time, I’ll definitely bring nut butter back into the mix for the ultimate flavor combo.

Alright, enough chit-chat. Let’s dive into this ridiculously simple (and irresistibly good) recipe:

The Recipe:

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 apple (I used green for that caramel apple vibe—plus, it tastes like those green apple lollipops we all loved as kids)

  • Medjool dates (they’re plump and perfect for this recipe)

  • Dark chocolate (or milk chocolate if that’s your thing)

  • Coconut oil

  • Optional: peanut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, pecans, or your favorite crunchy addition

  • Flaky salt (non-negotiable—it makes everything better!)

How to Make Them:

  1. Prep the Dates: If your dates have pits, remove them and gently open them up.

  2. Slice the Apple: Cut your apple into slices about ½–1 inch thick, depending on the size of your dates.

  3. Assemble the Bites: Wrap each date around an apple slice. If you’re adding peanut butter, spread it inside the date before inserting the apple.

  4. Add Toppings: Sprinkle in any extras like chia seeds, hemp seeds, or nuts for added texture and flavor.

  5. Melt the Chocolate: Combine your chocolate and a bit of coconut oil, then melt it slowly (be careful not to burn it!).

  6. Coat the Bites: Drizzle the melted chocolate over your bites or fully dunk them for a chocolatey coating.

  7. Finish with Flaky Salt: Sprinkle flaky salt on top—it’s the finishing touch that makes all the difference.

  8. Freeze: Place the bites in the freezer for at least an hour to set.

And voilà! A sweet, simple treat that’s sure to have you coming back for more. If you try this recipe or have your own fun twists, I’d love to see them! Share your creations and tag me so I can cheer you on.

Until next time, my darling—happy snacking!

xoxo,

Avalon
